CUTTING
I took an interesting photo this week for Orange and Blue Magazine. It was a photo of a "cutter", a title commonly used and accepted by people who cut themselves. The person didn't have very visible cuts on his body, which is a good thing, so we decided to go with a serious portrait that, hopefully, drew out some emotion that is stored inside a person who cuts themselves.
Explanation of cutting:
Cutting is called self-injury, self-harm or deliberate self-harm and it is deliberate infliction of tissue damage or alteration to oneself without suicidal intent. Although self-injury is commonly used to refer to infliction of harm to the body's surface, the term may also be used to include the harm inflicted on the body by those with eating disorders

One limited study found that, among those young individuals who do self-harm, both genders are just as equally likely to use the method of skin-cutting.[53] However, females who self-cut are more likely than males to explain their self-harm episode by saying that they had wanted to punish themselves.

All I Know: Fishing Is Life and Fishing is Dying
CLICK HERE TO WATCH IN LARGER FORMAT
Multimedia starts at 9 seconds.
This is a short piece, which will be a little bit larger in the beginning of December. You can consider this a trailer. I just wanted to post it for application purposes, and I know some people would like to see it.
This story is about the life-struggles of Eliseus de Sousa, a fisherman in northeast Brazil. The region he lives in is the poorest in all of Brazil. If you read Brazillian papers today you will see that this problem is a hot button. Neighboring communities are polluting waters, stealing boats, catching lobster at an infant state and stealing lobsters.
Due to desperation, the fishing community catches infant lobster, which results in a smaller catch the following year. Today, fishermen will only catch a dozen, or so, lobsters after a long week at see. The community of Redonda, where I reported with my partner Lucia Tolosa, consider this a full-fledged war.
I would eventually like to go back, if the "war" does not subside, and report on the violence. We were in the state a little prematurely and now, from what I have heard, the guns are out and people are ready to steal, fight and kill.

I'm in love with a robot
I'm In Love With a Robot - this is a link to my great friend Margo's fashion blog where she featured some of my photos. I was shooting video for The Gainesville Sun, so it was a little difficult to multi-task, but I couldn't resist taking photos. It's not every day Gville, Fla. has events like this. I <3 Gville, but it would be nice to see more events like this.

Here is funky video I did for The Gainesville Sun this week.
It's a little different than your average news piece I am guessing.

What a wacky day of shooting. Can't say I could have ran into anymore problems (rain, missing CF card etc.)
Today was the first game of our season and I was able to soberly get out and shoot some pics for The Gainesville Sun all morning. The scene provided some good photos.
I accidentally walked into OAR and Rascal Flats pregame session. I had no idea who they were and when I told them I was with the local paper they immediately thought I was there to interview them, but I had no idea who they were until the bluntly told me.
So I said "I am just here to take pregame shots for The Sun!...looks like great game of beer pong" I think they were a little surprised/upset that I came up to them just for beer pong pictures and not to talk to them, because they are famous and all...
